HOW THESE THINGS START

It seems for as long as I can remember, I have had a pencil, brush or camera in my hand, At the age of 14, I entered a painting competition with a subject based on a photo I had taken, it won first prize, I was hooked. The need to contribute to the family purse, overruled any hope of art collage, but later I was able to pursue a career in architectural design, which proved to be a great grounding for my art.

One of the hardest thing I find is for an artist is to get their work noticed, I was lucky to receive a commission for a Bob Dylan portrait for a client in New York, who happened to come across my web site, this led to my works being showed in galleries in New York and later London, today my work in shipped worldwide.

 

My work is best described as being undertaken in mixed media, as I will use whatever it takes to achieve the image I have in mind. Acrylic, starting with a Gesso coated canvas, then undertaken in a similar way to that of water colour, which gives plenty of bleed and no hard lines or profile, oil and occasionally pastel to achieve the unique style the works have become known for.
